I’ve asked God many times to help me become more patient...and then He sends an opportunity to grow my patience and I change my mind. Have you ever done that before? Wanting to be more patient is easy until it’s time to do the work. Why do we need patience anyway? To grow. It’s not an easy or enjoyable process. One reason we don’t like gaining patience is because it requires growth. Growing often leaves us feeling uncomfortable but it’s a necessary part of our journey. Another reason we don’t like patience? It requires us to wait and in order to wait, we have to give up control and that is hard to do. When we have patience with God, we’re saying “God, I’m waiting on you because I trust you,”.
Having patience with God extends to other areas of our lives. When our patience with God grows, so does our patience with people. So how do you have more patience? By surrendering. You’ll gain patience when you surrender to the fact that you don’t know it all. You’ll gain patience when you admit to yourself that God knows better. This is a process but you’ll start to see how your patience with God is directly related to your patience with people. Ask God to help you grow in this area and watch how He moves in your life.
